Whenever we venture out to do things for God, we must understand that He is the God of the breakthrough. He does not become surprised by what we are facing. In fact, nothing that ever happens in the world ever takes God by surprise. Even when Adam & Eve sinned, He was not taken back. He didn’t have to rush to try to think of what to do next. He already had breakthrough for them. Whatever you may be facing right now, know that God has a breakthrough plan ready for you.
Therefore, you don’t have to be afraid. You can trust that God has a plan ready for you. Since He knows your situation, He also already knows your answer. You are in good hands! God is in control. You have nothing to worry about.
Let’s look at Jehoshaphat. We find his found in 2 Chronicles 20. He had five armies that were ready to come after him. For a moment he was afraid, but he knew who to turn to.
1. Jehoshaphat sought God for his breakthrough
And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. So Judah gathered together to ask help from the Lord; and from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord. 2 Chronicles 20:3-4
Obviously, when Jehoshaphat received the news that five armies were coming after him, he became afraid. In the natural he was not sure what he could do. In order to have success in the natural he knew that his battle must be fought in the spiritual.
Jehoshaphat not only sought God by himself, he also asked the rest of Judah to fast with him. He knew he needed some back up. Of course, God could have answered the prayers of Jehoshaphat, but there is something about the prayer of agreement. Jehoshaphat knew that there was power in unity when everyone is praying for one purpose.
2. God already knew how to provide the breakthrough
And he said, “Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the Lord to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. Tomorrow go down against them. They will surely come up by the Ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the brook before the Wilderness of Jeruel. You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord is with you.” 2 Chronicles 20:15-17
This war did not take God by surprise. He knew it was coming. Therefore, the breakthrough plan was in place already. Nothing that happens in this world ever takes God by surprise. That is why God always has a way to bring you to your breakthrough. The answer is found in seeking Him. Jehoshaphat humbled himself and asked God what to do.
Sometimes we need to see our situation for what it is: utterly helpless. You can do nothing. Certainly, the only way out is if God does something. In this desperation we must cry out to God. Obviously, some things we should not do on our own.
3. Breakthrough came with abundance
When Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away their spoil, they found among them an abundance of valuables on the dead bodies, and precious jewelry, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away; and they were three days gathering the spoil because there was so much. And on the fourth day they assembled in the Valley of Berachah, for there they blessed the Lord; therefore the name of that place was called The Valley of Berachah until this day. 2 Chronicles 20: 25-26
Jehoshaphat went from a place of complete hopelessness to absolute victory! God is the God of the turnaround. He will turn things around in your favour. If you find yourself in great despair, raise your hands and praise Jesus. Know that He has control of your situation. He will certainly bring you through.
Know that God already has an answer. He is one step ahead in every situation. God knows your whole life before you were born. You are destined for greatness not destruction.
We must trust God in every circumstance. Whatever we are facing, we can rest assured that God has a plan. If you are going through some difficult things right now, place your eyes on Jesus. Praise Him because He already knows how to bring your breakthrough.
