The Greatest Pursuit -Go after God

Getting to know God better has to be the greatest pursuit one can make. It’s also probably one of the most difficult. Many use the description of it like climbing a mountain. You need to pace yourself and go one step at a time. A relationship in the natural doesn’t develop overnight, neither does it with God. It takes time and effort. God wants to have a relationship with us, but do we want to have one with Him?

Climbing a mountain can be easier for some, but it is always a difficult thing. For example, I’m not very athletic or even exercise much for that matter (although I am trying a bit harder lately).  I have friends who are really disciplined and could probably carry me up the mountain. However, seeking God we must do on our own. It’s not just something we do in a church or a gathering.

Even though the pursuit is hard it’s a very important one to make. I’ve decided to take the pursuit no matter how hard it gets. Rather than being satisfied with ‘status quo’ Christianity, I want more!  I will press in to see all that God has for me. I encourage you to do the same. David said it like this:

One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in His Temple. Psalm 27:4

ONE THING

David purposed that there was only one thing he wanted in life. He desired more of God’s Presence. Today we would say that David wanted to get to know the Lord better. Most of all, David desired the things of God. He had enemies chasing him and was going through a tough time of persecution, but he still wanted to pursue God.

This was something he determined. It was his only pursuit. It wasn’t enough for David to just serve God on Sundays. He didn’t want to be someone who only gave ‘lip service’ to God. David was willing to press in. He wanted to climb the mountain that so few want to climb.

To pursue God means giving up your time, energy, will and feelings. You must give everything to Him. He knows what is best for you anyway. It is something that you need to do conscientiously. This must be a burning desire in your heart. If it’s not you won’t go after it wholeheartedly. If you don’t do it with all your heart, you won’t have any success. This is because you won’t be willing to press in.

Sometimes God wants to wake you up in the middle of the night to talk with you. Would you be willing to give up sleep for him? At other times, you will be so tired but He wants to say something, will you give Him your energy? You may not feel like praying, however you must deny your feelings. God wants to be Lord of your life. In a pursuit like this, you must hand everything over to Him.

CLIMB THE MOUNTAIN -Go After your Pursuit

Will you do what it takes to pursue God? Have you decided to climb the mountain with me and so many others wanting to press in to God? It’s time to lay everything aside and allow God to do what He needs to do in your life. God’s looking for people willing to give up their lives. As I’ve mentioned in earlier blogs (read complete surrender for example), Jesus never asked for just a piece of your heart. He wants one hundred percent.

Jesus called us to follow Him. He took time to seek God. Let’s be like Jesus and pursue God’s Presence. Like David, I want to live in His Presence. I want to always be conscious of it. Even when I’m going through tough times, I want to seek Him. I’m willing to give everything to Him to have all that He has for me. Will you do the same?

Allow God to do His perfect work in you. Run after him with all you’ve got. He truly is worth it. There is nothing better than serving Jesus when we do it with all our heart. Our lives are so much fuller when we live completely to Him.
