Make Jesus Your Passion

Jesus truly needs to be the One we live our lives for. He has to be the most important One to us. I want my passion for Jesus to show in everything I do. One quote I have always enjoyed is, “Set yourself on fire with passion and people will come for miles to watch you burn.” Most accredit John Wesley with this quote but apparently we don’t really know who said it.

Are you entirely sold out to Jesus? Is He your one and only passion? Whether He is or isn’t at this point in your life, I want you to keep reading. I hope that you at least desire that He would be your passion. If He is your passion, I’m sure you’re like me and you want Him to be more. I don’t think we can ever be passionate enough for Jesus.

This is probably the most important thing you will need on your way to stepping into your calling. Without a passion for Jesus, you won’t do well in what God’s called you to do. Don’t expect that you will acquire passion once you step into your calling. This will never be the case. You will need passion first.

Everything we do for Jesus should come out of our love for Him. This should be our drive even in the simplest of things. Paul said it this way, “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” (Colossians 3:17 NKJV)

Having a passion for Jesus now will help you to walk in your calling. When you are passionate, you will do anything, whatever it takes to make the person happy. Of course, God is always pleased with you; however you can do things that please Him. What I’m trying to say is that as you are passionate you have the person on the forefront of your mind. Therefore, you do what you know He would ask of you.

As you do the things that are pleasing to Him, He begins to entrust you with more. Don’t think that you just wake up one day and you are walking in His complete calling. I don’t believe that you ever truly know exactly when you start walking in the fullness of your calling. You just do what you are called to. At the moment God begins to do more through you.

As you start your walk with God, He works in you and your desire is to obey Him. You long to do what is right. With all of your heart you want Him to be glorified through you. God honours this. While you seek Him, He moulds and shapes you. You begin to live your life as if it were not your own. Your only desire is to live for Him all the days of your life.

If you don’t have this passion for God that I’m talking about, don’t worry, God hasn’t forsaken you. This passion can be yours if you want it. All you need to do is ask for it. Begin to seek God and tell Him that you would like to have a desire to serve Him. Let Him know that you long to be passionate for Him. This is a prayer you can be sure He will answer.

Once you ask God for a passion for His name, things will change in you. No longer will you seek your own will. You will want His “will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” (Matthew 6:10) The sin that you once enjoyed will fade away. You won’t want to do the things that you once did because now your desire is wholly for Him. When He is your desire, absolutely nothing else will satisfy.

When Jesus becomes number one in your life nothing will be able to shake you. Nothing will take you off track. As you keep your eyes on Jesus, He will prepare you for all that He has for you.

I hope that you haven’t been sold the lie that once you accept Jesus into your heart everything will go good. You will never have any problems. Jesus didn’t promise that. In fact He said, “…While you are in the world, you will have to suffer. But cheer up! I have defeated the world.” (John 16:33b CEV)

He told us that we will suffer in the world. This doesn’t sound like Good News; however, He also tells us that He has defeated the world. It doesn’t matter how much we suffer, God’s still in control. He’s there for you and able to turn your mourning into dancing again. Put your trust in Him and He will do the impossible in your situation. Instead of wondering why the suffering is happening to you, open your heart to Jesus and see that He is the conquering King. You are called to “rule and reign in Him” (1st Corinthians 4:8)

Let Jesus be number one in your heart today. Dedicate your life afresh to Him and allow him to remove the areas in your heart that are not pleasing to Him. Allow Him to work in your mind the way He needs to. He longs for you to be passionate for Him.
