Your Mind: The Enemy’s Battlefield

One of the strongest battlefields for the enemy is our mind. It is his strategic place to keep us off guard and away from the things that God has for us. With our minds we doubt, are anxious, think evil thoughts, all of which take away the peace that God wants us to have. If we want to win the battle of our minds we will need a plan.

The enemy (devil) wants to keep you depressed. He wants to make sure that you never get out of the rut you’re in. If he can hold you there you will never advance. If you want to move forward you will have to win the battle.

Often, we don’t think we can change things. We are easily discouraged because we believe things will never change. The good news is that God has given us victory over our minds. Today, I want to give you 3 steps that will help you win the battle. You will no longer need to live in defeat!

SET YOUR MIND ON WHAT IS GOOD

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things.

Philippians 4:8

The first thing we need to do is think right. We are defeated simply because we have a wrong way of thinking. We think in the natural and not with eyes of faith. It is easy to just go along with everything that we see.

For instance, when you open the newspaper and only see bad news, it can be depressing. Some newspapers major on the bad things. The world trains us to see the evil and the negative. We need to purify our minds and think on what is good.

Usually, we need to retrain our thinking. We used to think negative all the time. Now we need to change our thoughts to positive ones. Instead of dwelling on defeat, know that you are victorious.

PUT YOUR MIND ON HEAVENLY THINGS

If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.

Colossians 3:1, 2

As we look at things in the natural we are worried, depressed and have anxiety issues. When we put our minds on heavenly things we don’t have any of these negative things. Therefore, it’s so important to put our minds on heavenly things. We need to think in a new way.  The Bible says that, “we have the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16). That’s amazing! This means we are capable of thinking as Christ does.

Jesus never thought defeat, He always saw victory. He wasn’t thinking on sickness, He knew He had divine healing. Jesus wasn’t worried or upset. He put His eyes on His Father. He looked to heavenly things.

If you want victory over your mind, know who you are in Christ. Know that you have the victory. He has paid your debt. He has set you free. Think and believe these things for they are yours.

TAKE EVERY THOUGHT CAPTIVE

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

2 Corinthians 10:4-6

Once again, our mind is trained to think evil. The world has taught us everything opposite to what God’s Word teaches. Therefore, we must become familiar with God’s Word. It must become real to us. As we know God’s Word we can act upon it.

Once we know God’s Word we can replace all our evil thoughts with His thoughts. We can completely change the way we think. When we have a thought, we must immediately take it into captivity. Then replace it with the truth of God’s Word.

The more truth that we have the more victory we will receive. The Bible says, “you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32) Memorize God’s Word. Meditate on it day and night. (Joshua 1:8) As you do, you will know when to take your thoughts into captivity to the obedience of Christ.

If you want a pure mind, you must fight for it. Purity doesn’t just happen by itself. You should want it. The more you get God’s Word inside of you the more knowledge you will have which will help you to think the way He does. His mind is always pure.

WIN THE BATTLE OF YOUR MIND

Do you want victory? Don’t allow the devil to beat you up anymore. The victory is yours, take it. God has given you all you need to win the battle. It’s time for you to apply it. Preachers always tell you it’s important to read God’s Word. This is the reason.

Reading God’s Word more often won’t add to your salvation. However, it will renew your mind (Romans 12:2) It will help you see the way God does. Don’t just be spoon fed by other preachers. Allow God’s Word to get deep into your heart and mind.

Please read my post on repentance. Repentance and renewing of the mind go together.

If you would like to learn more on this subject there is an excellent book by Joyce Meyer by a very similar title. The book is called, Battlefield Of The Mind. I didn’t use any quotes from the book but it definitely does go along with this teaching.
