Ever since I became a Christian over 20 years ago, I was told that a move of God would come. It seemed to be something that we were waiting and hoping for – something to happen sometime in the future. Many Christians continue to look and wait for this move of God. I do understand their thoughts and we have not seen the fulness of it yet. However, if we keep waiting for something in the future, we will miss out on what is happening right now!
In Guatemala we are witnessing salvations, healing, deliverance, people being baptized in the Holy Spirit on a weekly, almost daily basis. I know that there is still so much more to come. I believe for greater healings and manifestations of God’s Spirit. In every service or while visiting homes God shows up and does amazing things. We decided a few years back that we wanted to see at least one miracle in every service.
In conclusion, I have decided to stop waiting for God to move. I am enjoying the move that we are in now. Of course, I hunger for more. However, I see that God started a move in Genesis and He has not finished. Let us look at the Scriptures to learn more from God’s Word.
1. The move of God began at Creation.
The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Genesis 1:2
God noticed that the earth was without form and void. He did not leave it that way. There were no humans on the earth yet, He had to do something. This is where He began to bring order, creativity and displayed His power.
God spoke and things began to take place. God began to move in ways that He never had before. This was the first move of God. It brought order to the chaos, creativity to what was dull and power for us to know that He exists and is all-powerful.
2. In a move of God we must depend on the Holy Spirit.
Whenever the cloud was taken up from above the tabernacle, the children of Israel would go onward in all their journeys. But if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not journey till the day that it was taken up. For the cloud of the Lord was above the tabernacle by day, and fire was over it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys. Exodus 40:36-38
We seem to be living a moment like this now. With everything going on in the world with COVID-19, it is hard to plan. Governments are deciding on lockdowns, arrival procedures and many other restrictions. In Canada specifically we cannot go back unless we want to pay well over $2000 in hotel fees.
My wife and I find ourselves often laying our plans before the Lord asking Him to direct our paths. At times I want to ask for the pillar of fire and cloud. However, God wants us to be led and depend on His Holy Spirit. We make plans, but we depend on the Holy Spirit to tell us to go.
3. Be aware of what God is doing.
Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. John 5:19
Jesus spent much time in prayer. He constantly sought to see what His Father was doing. Jesus performed miracles all the time. This proves that God is always moving. God did not only want to do miracles through Jesus, but He also wants to do them through you too!
We must seek the Father. As we do, we see that He is always performing miracles. There is never a dull moment with God. If Jesus depended on the Father, how much more should we. If you ask God what He is doing He will show you what He wants to do now rather than later. It is foolish to think God’s move is for the future.
4. We need power to flow in the move of God.
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. Acts 1:8.
This is the verse we often use when we speak of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Of course, I agree with this and I use the verse many times that way myself. However, there is so much more! Jesus did not say you shall receive the gift of tongues when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. Again, there is a truth to that. Rather Jesus is saying that you will receive POWER! The power of God will clothe you!
If we are to be witnesses and want to flow in the move of God, we need power. Jesus walked in the fulness of the Spirit. We are called to do the same. Jesus is raising up an army that are not afraid to walk in His gifts. The gifts of the Spirit do not just manifest, you need to walk in them. Paul tells us to desire them (1 Corinthians 14:1). You also need to use them. Step out in faith!
Conclusion:
Stop waiting for something powerful in the future. God is doing so much today! There are no restrictions in His Spirit. It is time that we step out, preach the Gospel, cast out devils, pray for the sick and cause God’s power to manifest.
Be the move of God you are waiting for. Decide today to see miracles. To experience them you will have to do what you were told to do. Lay your hands on the sick. Declare the power of God. Preach the Gospel and believe for signs to follow because they surely will.
