Vision Gets Clearer As We Seek Jesus

In my first blog I wrote about the importance of following God’s timing. You don’t want to step ahead of God. Trust me. When He gives you a vision you must wait until He shows you His perfect timing.

God told Abram, “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great and you shall be a blessing.” (Genesis 12:2). God said this to Abram while he had no children. In verse four of the same chapter it states that “Abram was seventy-five years old” when he received this promise.

Can you imagine receiving a word from God that you would have a child when you are seventy-five? Most people are grandparents by then, maybe even great-grandparents, yet God says to Abram that he would have his first child at this age. His wife Sarai was only ten years younger. That must have been a hard word to believe, yet Romans says, “He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened with faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was able to perform.” (Romans 4:20, 21)

Abram chose to take God at His Word. If God said it, then He would surely do it. It didn’t matter how absurd it sounded. This is a great example for us. You may have received a vision from God that seems so far above your capacity that would be impossible for you to accomplish it in your own strength. I have good news for you, if you feel this way, the vision you have most likely is from God. God will only give you a vision that He can fulfill through you, not something you can do in your own strength.

God wants to stretch you far beyond your natural capacity. He’s going to make you into a better person. He’s forming you into His image. The truth is: you need a vision from God. Once you have God’s vision for your life, you have purpose and destiny. You know what you were made for.

If you don’t yet have a vision from God, I want to encourage you to get one. Spend some time in His Presence by praying and reading His Word. I’m not saying that you should seek to have a vision, but seek Jesus who gives vision and places destiny into your life. As you spend time in His Presence, He begins to speak things into your heart and mind.

When I first received a vision to reach out to street people and prostitutes it seemed like something impossible for me to do. Sure I had some experience in dealing with addictions as I was once addicted to drinking and smoking marijuana. However, God miraculously delivered me; I had no more desire for those things. Now I was called to help people deal with their addictions and help them walk through it.

The vision always expands and grows clearer with time. As you spend time with Jesus and enjoy His Presence. He shows you different steps to your vision. In my life the vision expanded from House of Refuge (a small house to help men come out of addictions) to City of Refuge (5 acres of land to help these men get stable, learn new trades and become men of God). The vision grew from a house to a city!

We see how a vision grows in the life of Abram. As we mentioned earlier, God said to Abram, “I will make you a great nation.” (Genesis 12:2) In the following chapter, God reveals more of the vision.

And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are – northward, southward, eastward and westward; for all the land that you see I give to you and your descendants forever. And I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if a man could number the dust of the earth, then your descendants also could be numbered. Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I will give it to you. Genesis 13:14-17 NKJV

God first told Abram that He would make a great nation out of him. Now God says it will be so big that no one would be able to count it. Imagine that. There’s absolutely no way that Abram can make this happen. Especially, now that he was over seventy-five.

Abram had to choose to take God at His word. The vision was too big and impossible for a man to do by himself. This is where I want you to be encouraged. God has given you a huge vision, impossible for you to accomplish. You must trust Him, no matter how long it seems to be taking or how old you feel you are. If God has given you a promise and I’m sure He has, He will accomplish it through you. Yes you have a part to play, but you need Him if you are ever going to see it fulfilled.

Stay strong in faith even when things seem impossible. Keep believing God will do what He said He will do. His vision for your life is even bigger than you could possibly ever imagine. Please don’t fall short. Ask God to expand your vision and see His plan for your life. Besides, His plan will be much bigger and better than your own plan.
